Keiko Fujimori (Popular Force) narrowly won the 7 June runoff against left-wing lawmaker Roberto Sánchez, 50.48% to 49.52%, after leading a fragmented first-round field of 35 candidates with just 17% of the vote. The election was marred by vote-counting delays that forced the electoral chief's resignation.
